English Vinglish
A movie which reminds us all about the great and talented
actress Sri Devi who unfortunately left her loving family and fans
unexpectedly.
“Forgetting or neglecting to care, appreciate and loving
your loved will risk you in losing them at some point”
This movie portrays us the importance of English in the
present society. However, the most interesting area, which attracts the
audience, is the struggle of a typical Indian housewife who struggles to learn
English under the most difficult situations.
ENGLISH a language which links countries, makes international
friendships and many more. Out of all the key important uses of the English
language, in the present society it has a become a language which differentiate
the classes, education level and even the social status. If you go to a bank,
or any other place in sake of their service in your country, some polished and
fluent English sentences will make your work more easy and quick than the
native language in the country. This can be mostly seen in the countries which
have being under the British rule in the ancient times.
However, ENGLISH has become the ruling language in the
world.
ENGLISH VINGLISH, an wonderful movie directed by Gauri
Shinde uses a character of a good and kind housewife in the traditional Indian
society to show those above mentioned facts in
a more attractive and interesting manner also with an important massage
to the society.
Shashi the protagonist character of the movie played by the
great actress Sri Devi is a house wife and a mother of two kids. She bosses all
her household in a perfect way and she takes her time to make her own money by
doing a ladoo business by her own. She is glad about little money she earns by
her own effort. She does not uses this money on dresses or any other she saves
all this money. This shows the characteristic of all the good housewives in the
Asian countries. Where they do not bother and annoy their husbands, or the only
breadwinner of the family in any situation they need extra money for something.
The audience fall in love with this character of Shashi
because of the actress’s talent in acting and with the abilities of this lady.
She is also a good and loving mother for both her children. Her little boy
loves her the most and from the begging of the movie, we are shown that the
daughter is slightly difficult to control by Shashi. However, this do not
become a problem in the family until she lies her mother in order to go to a
coffee party. We also feel sorry for this innocent and loving mother because of
how this daughter is shame to introduce her mother to her friends because of
her mother’s inability to converse in English.
This inability of understanding and speaking of ENGLISH
makes her disappointed even in front of her own family members. Her very own
husband and the two children keeps laughing at her mispronunciations and how she
struggles to understand in the language.
In this situation, the fate starts to turn its path. Shashi was invited by her sister to America in order to help her with the daughter’s wedding arrangements. This visit makes an unexpected turn in the life of Shashi. She feels lonely and alienated in a completely unknown country, where she falls into embracement in front of the people because of her inability to understand and converse in ENGLISH.
Luckily, her niece understand her aunt’s problem and she
makes her a chance to learn English. The movie fabricates how she learns
English eagerly and it is the most attractive and interesting part of the
moving. Here she meets a French friend. A middle age man who seems to have a
crush on Shashi. Even though Shashi understands his intentions, she never
responds to those, because she values her family more.
Her husband never appreciates her; he never loves her. Even
though they are married, he never takes his time to appreciate and take care of
her in a especial way. Nut. In my view, love has no age limit or a period in
the relationship where the partners should stop showing their love and stop
giving the attention to the other. Hidden love can always cause problem and disappoints
the other person. Showing it openly at least once in a blue moon will make your
partner happy and comfortable. Because nobody in the world will be able to read
your thoughts unless you tell them.
Shashi’s husband never think about this other than his busy
life. However, the French friend sees the unseen value and beauty of Shashi. It
is only Shashi’s good qualities and her faithfulness towards the family keeps
her distance from the French friend.
The ending of the movie is very emotional with its scenes and it shows the struggles of a housewife to learn between her duties and responsibilities of a mother, wife, sister and a daughter in law. Even this is the 21st century, still these things happens and these issues will be universal in the future as well.
Another important fact we all must remember is that, we must
use English as WEPON and not as a JEWEL. You will see how Shashi portrays this
message in a drastic in the end of the movie.
There is no age limit to learn.
Never laugh at others mistakes, it will not discourage them
but encourage them to do their best.
